Birman

The Sacred cat of Burma is a colourpoint cat. The points are: muzzle, ears, legs, tail, genitals. The original colours were seal and blue. Later chocholate and lilac also bacame accepted colours. With the passing of time other colours, for example red and cream were included in the breeding, making it possible to breed torties. These days it is commonplace to come across lynx (tabby) birmans.

Birman cats are born white, their colouring and marks develop later in life.

The show standards are very high. The breeder has not only to watch for perfect body build, coat length and structure, but also take account of head shape, the white gloves and the coat colouring are same important. It is almost impossible to breed a perfect Birman from all view points, therefore minimal deviations are allowed on shows, however there are basic reqirements which have to be adhered to.
